Use of natural stone in the home has become very popular. We here at Alway Homes LOVE natural stone. Whether marble, granite or slate, natural stone has a ton of personality and color. Plus, it’s perfect for floors and countertops, both.

Travertine has been as especially popular favorite flooring material in the past several years. It’s timeless look and feel make it a great choice for any style home. Travertine typically comes in color shades from creamy white to a sandy yellow, and may have streaks of brown running through it. Travertine can be laid smooth and polished, or left looking slightly more distressed with tumbled edges.

Here is a perfect example of three different Travertine ‘looks’. The floor tiles outside the shower are tumbled, and then, inside the shower are smooth 12×12 inch Travertine tiles, and then even smaller 1×1 inch tiles in the center of the wall. Just count all the different ways the same stone has been used to create distinct styles!

copper7Here’s a great example of two different natural stones being met up against one another. The counter is a one-inch slab of granite, and the backsplash is Travertine. Notice the many layered colors in the granite! Reds, blacks, browns and tawny browns. This piece looks especially great up against the copper sink. Every piece is unique.

Check out the deep blues in this natural stone granite counter! This particular powder bath was in an extremely detailed French Manor. The Interior Decorator used a strict palate of neutrals with splashes of color here and there. The blue granite countertop was the ‘splash’ in this room. Elsewhere, she used a dynamic blue slate tile for flooring in an open, sun-room/dining room, and hints of blue throughout the kitchen decor tiles.
