Den Mantle

Love books? We do! Alway Homes nearly all have one thing in common: built-in library bookshelves. Lately, we’ve been dressing-up bookshelves anew.

Take a tour through an Alway Home and you’ll find out soon enough that every home, from the most exquisite contemporary to the most rustic cabin, has a certain flair only found building with Jess.

The bookshelves in particular always have a few surprises up their sleeves.

Take this mantel/media center/library! This set-up came as a compromise for the homeowners — both bonafide book lovers — but also wanting to occasionally watch some TV. BUT they certainly did not want the TV and the Fireplace vying for equal attention!

The result? An elegant solution, may we say ourselves. The TV area is covered with a reclaimed wood sliding door on an iron wheel-and-rail system. Could there be a more cozy solution?

In the library, we designed a built-in shelving unit (more dressed-up bookshelves) from reclaimed barn wood. By comparison, the built-in bookshelf below was made custom out of knotty alder, to match the cabinetry in the kitchen in fit and finish.

Every home should have room for lots and lots of books. And while the books are the real treasures, the dressed-up bookshelves make the room flow.

By the way, we’ve talked here before about how to utilize voided space in every home — and that means: library shelving, pantries, storage, closets, linens…
