Some art niches are built into homes to showcase paintings and photographs owned by the residents. Other art niches are built for art’s sake. This is such a niche.

An art niche can be a focal point for an otherwise “boring” room or wall that doesn’t seem too important. It can also be the crown of the most important room of all (be that whichever you deem most important).

I’ve had clients request everything — walls built exclusively to showcase large oil paintings, coved niches for bronzes, and as pictured above, more abstract ‘built-in’ designs that complement the home itself.

Here is another photo of a design carved into the home itself. This grape and wheat theme (harvest) flowed throughout the home.

And this art niche is on the outside of a home! Perfect for a small topiary or ?

And lastly, this great example of two different types of art niches functioning in the same hallway! The ancient carved door was inset into the wall creating a real visual treat. Further down the hallway you can see the custom built (rounded) art niche with lighting for a painting.

The art you want to display is an important and foundational part of your custom home. Whether you hang it on a wall, put it on a pedestal or build it into the walls — let it become part of the plan from the outset.
