Guess what? I’m finally in vogue. I’ve been a believer in repurposed and reinvented recycling for decades. It’s part of what makes my job as a home builder and designer really fun! When I came across these safety deposit box’s at a reclaimed salvage yard I had to have them. I loved the vintage look, the slightly beat-up exterior, and the funky artwork. And I knew I’d have a place for them in the next spec house I built.
Sure enough- the perfect place emerged.
The bank boxes were re-imagined as part of a furniture-grade free-standing (but with the home) cabinet for the dining room. This spec home was sold half-way through construction, so I was able to sit down with the new owners and discuss their likes an dislikes. This piece will fit their wedding china perfectly. And maybe some Scotch.
Repurposing the whimsical to classic might be my number one hobby — if a hobby can be part of my work.
