As I’ve mentioned in this blog before, I’m a sucker for the rustic cowboy look. Or High Mountain Design — call it what you will. So you can imagine there were a few tongues wagging when I gave this classic master suite bath a modern twist with a free standing tub!!!
But one thing I’ve learned over the years is this: you can have a design point of view and continue to evolve as a designer BOTH. Those two things can live and breath together.
I look at this bathroom and I still see rustic. Remember in the old days when cowboys took baths outside? In a watering trough? Tell me that isn’t just a little bit similar. 🙂
Nowadays, cowboys can soak in a 6 ft cast iron tub, surrounded by the finest travertine stone (heated too, if they like!) and never worry about being interrupted by a wayward bovine.
Across from the free-standing tub is our two-sink vanity. Guess what? More “modern twists” — look there at the open shelving. I like it because it’s a great place to roll towels and stack other linens without taking up more room in small spaces with a linen closet.
This home prices out in the mid $300’s in Salem, Oregon — and I guarantee you will not find another house of similar quality for the money in that area. Not every first or second buy home need be a cookie-cutter creation.
