For the money, I’d say wooden flooring is just about the best investment for your home — whether a remodel or a custom build. For esthetics that is. I want to make sure you have a working furnace first :).
But seriously, after all the research and facts are in on mold growth, allergens and dirt in home carpet — why would anyone want carpet through their entire house? Remember when it was posh to put it in the kitchen? Makes your skin crawl these days, doesn’t it? And we haven’t even touched on smell. Carpets hold every smell you put in a house: greasy food, perfumes, cigarette smoke, fireplace ashes, dogs, cats, tigers or other large beasts, you name it — if it was in your home, it’s in your carpet.
So, let’s go back to the basics. Let’s return to wood flooring. Functional, good looking, warm, strong and beautiful, wood flooring makes a house a home.
And just for the record, I’m a fan of all wood flooring. But the type I love BEST is creative. A parquet floor. A basket weave. A contrasting pegged board floor. Any of the above!
In every single one of my small square footage homes being built in Salem, Oregon right now, you will find a great looking, HIGHLIGHT, wood floor.
That last photo is of one of my favorite dining rooms, featuring a basket weave design in the wood flooring. The wood is raw, and has not been polished or finished yet, so it looks a bit dull, but you can still see the intricate design. I’m telling you it’s nearly a sin to put a big table over it! But all floors should be used, and used well — so have no fear — your wood flooring can still live up to the task of a family of six plus a dog. Just take care of it, love it, and it will love you back.
If you are in the area (Salem or Bend, Oregon) let me know. I’d love to show you some of these wood floors in person.
